Dr. Malede mentors trainees at Juba Teaching Hospital as ECSACOG joins the 4th AGOSS Scientific Conference
From skill-building to policy advocacy, ECSACOG’s presence in South Sudan reflects its continued commitment to strengthening OB/GYN training and reproductive healthcare systems across the region.
In October 2025, Dr. Malede Birara, a senior ECSACOG representative, led an impactful mentorship session for residents at Juba Teaching Hospital. The visit focused on empowering trainees through guided clinical support, professional development, and real-time mentorship — a key element of ECSACOG’s approach to quality postgraduate education. Trainees were supported in both clinical and academic domains, reinforcing the values of competence, compassion, and confidence.
Alongside this mentorship initiative, ECSACOG was formally represented by Prof. Stephen Rulisa and Dr. Malede Birara at the 4th Annual Scientific Conference of the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of South Sudan (AGOSS), held in Juba, South Sudan.
The conference brought together national and regional leaders in women’s health to deliberate on key priorities for improving maternal, reproductive, and newborn care. Delegates called for:
- Increased domestic and international health funding
- Strengthened community outreach and referral systems
- Stricter regulation and oversight of health services
- Expanded fertility care in major hospitals
ECSACOG’s participation in the AGOSS conference and on-the-ground mentorship activities reflects its holistic strategy: combining policy engagement, clinical training, and institutional partnerships to build stronger reproductive health systems in post-conflict and underserved settings.
We commend AGOSS for organizing a dynamic and solutions-oriented conference and salute the dedication of South Sudanese trainees and faculty working tirelessly to improve care for women and families.
