Pivotal workshop convened in Zanzibar to lay the foundation for the ECSACOG Journal, supporting research and knowledge sharing across East, Central and Southern Africa.
On 15 December 2024, the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ECSACOG) held its inaugural Consultative Workshop for the development of the ECSACOG Journal in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The workshop marked a significant milestone in ECSACOG’s ongoing efforts to strengthen academic publishing and promote evidence-based practice in the region. It brought together key stakeholders, including academic leaders, clinicians, and representatives from member countries, to define the scope, structure, and editorial direction of the new journal.
The ECSACOG Journal will serve as a peer-reviewed platform for sharing original research, clinical case reports, reviews, and policy insights relevant to reproductive, maternal, and newborn health. The initiative is designed to support knowledge exchange, build regional research capacity, and contribute to global scientific dialogue from an African perspective.
Participants at the workshop discussed the journal’s vision, editorial governance, publication standards, and strategies for encouraging submissions from early-career researchers and established professionals alike.
The outcomes of the workshop include a roadmap for establishing the editorial board, drafting author and reviewer guidelines, and preparing for the first call for papers.
The launch of the ECSACOG Journal reaffirms the College’s commitment to advancing professional excellence and supporting the dissemination of context-specific knowledge across its member countries.
