Bellington Vwalika is an obstetrician, gynaecologist and epidemiologist by training and currently working for the University of Zambia, where he serves as a full professor of obstetrics and gynaecology. Since 2015, he has been appointed adjunct full research professor at the University of North Carolina Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the USA. He serves as an external examiner for numerous Medical Universities locally and in the African sub-region. He has successfully led numerous clinical trials and observational studies as principal or co-investigator. He has successfully supervised over 70 postgraduate students, including Masters and PhDs, and examined such PhDs locally and in the East Central and Southern Africa region. He has over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals and also serves as a reviewer for local and international medical journals. He has previously served as head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Zambia School of Medicine. Additionally, he has previously served on the Executive of the Zambia Medical Association, the Zambia Association of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians, the Board of Health Professions Council of Zambia and also as Chairperson of the National Health Research Authority of Zambia Council. He sits on various technical working groups under the Ministry of Health, offering advice on matters related to reproductive health. Prof Vwalika is in charge of education on the Executive of Zambia College of Medicine and Surgery, and is also the current Secretary General of East Central and Southern Africa College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology since its inception in 2017.
