A two-day visit strengthens quality assurance and trainee development in Zambia
The East, Central and Southern Africa College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ECSACOG) has successfully completed the re-accreditation of Victoria Chipeto Hospital and delivered a structured mentorship session for resident trainees from 30th–31st October 2025. This dual exercise reaffirms ECSACOG’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards of postgraduate OB/GYN training and supporting trainees throughout their professional development.
The re-accreditation process involved a comprehensive evaluation of the hospital’s capacity to continue serving as a training site for ECSACOG residents. Areas assessed included faculty availability, clinical caseload, infrastructure, teaching resources, mentorship support, and alignment with ECSACOG’s competency-based training model.
Victoria Chipeto Hospital, which has been part of the ECSACOG training network, demonstrated continued readiness to deliver high-quality academic and clinical training. The hospital remains an important contributor to capacity building for women’s health professionals in Zambia and the region.
In parallel with the re-accreditation visit, ECSACOG conducted an intensive mentorship session for resident trainees stationed at the hospital. The session focused on personal development, clinical confidence-building, academic performance, and preparation for upcoming assessments. Trainees also had the opportunity to engage directly with ECSACOG evaluators and mentors to discuss challenges and receive guidance.
Such integrated visits — combining quality assurance and mentorship — are part of ECSACOG’s broader strategy to ensure that trainees are not only working in accredited environments but are also receiving the necessary support, supervision, and encouragement to succeed.
ECSACOG extends appreciation to the leadership and faculty of Victoria Chipeto Hospital for their continued dedication to excellence in training and service delivery. We also commend the trainees for their active participation and commitment to professional growth.
As ECSACOG continues to scale its efforts across the region, visits like these are essential to sustaining a robust, responsive, and equitable training ecosystem.
