ECSACOG joins the global call to raise breast cancer awareness and support early detection efforts
October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to amplify the importance of early detection, informed treatment, and compassionate support for all those affected by breast cancer.
Breast cancer doesn’t always begin with pain — in fact, it often starts as a small, nearly unnoticed change. A lump, a change in skin texture, or an unusual sensation may be the only early signs. That’s why routine screening and awareness of subtle changes are critical in the fight against this disease.
The East, Central and Southern Africa College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ECSACOG) joins the global community in raising awareness, educating health professionals, and supporting stronger systems for early diagnosis and care.
Through our training programs, ECSACOG equips healthcare providers across the region with the skills to recognize early signs of breast cancer, counsel patients with confidence, and guide them through appropriate diagnostic and treatment pathways. In low-resource settings, empowering providers with this knowledge can mean the difference between early intervention and late-stage diagnosis.
Breast cancer is not just a personal battle — it is a public health priority. Early detection saves lives, and together, we must create an environment where women feel safe, informed, and supported in seeking care.
This October, ECSACOG encourages everyone to:
- Learn the signs and symptoms
- Advocate for regular screenings and early detection
- Stand with those affected by breast cancer
- Support access to timely and equitable care for all
Join us in spreading awareness. Like, share, comment, and start the conversation.
Let’s ensure that every woman — no matter where she lives — has the chance to detect early, treat confidently, and live fully.
