The East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) is an inter-governmental regional organisation, established in 1974, to strengthen regional cooperation and capacity to address the health needs of member states. During the 30 years of its existence, ECSA has evolved into a strong regional organisation that provides member countries with a unique framework for addressing health problems that require joint action. As an inter-governmental organisation, ECSA enjoys direct links with regional health policy- makers who include Health Ministers and Permanent/Principal Secretaries as well as an extensive network of regional health institutions. ECSA also maintains strong linkages with international development agencies based in the region and other parts of the world.

ECSA-HC has a number of semi-autonomous professional colleges and ECSACOG is one among them. The ECSA College of Health Sciences oversees and coordinates the functioning of all these semi-autonomous professional colleges.
